Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) is Vietnam’s busiest airport, located 6-8 km from Ho Chi Minh City’s CBD. It has two terminals: T2 for international flights and T1 for domestic flights. The airport offers currency exchange, SIM card kiosks, ATMs, and food outlets, though it can get crowded, especially during peak hours. Immigration queues can take 15 minutes to over an hour, so be prepared. After clearing immigration, proceed to baggage claim and customs, where random checks may occur. Free Wi-Fi is available but unreliable, so having a local SIM card for internet access is recommended.
To reach your hotel, Grab and Be ride-hailing apps are the best budget options. Mai Linh and Vinasun taxis are reliable, but avoid unmarked taxis. Public buses are the cheapest option, but do not have baggage racks, are slower and the services stop in the late evening. Rush hour traffic can double travel time, so plan accordingly. If arriving late, airport pickup services are the safest choice.
